• As an oxidizing agent, peroxone can be used to remove natural organic carbon, organic micropollutants such as pesticides and increase the biodegradability of organic compounds.

• In the case of heavier atrazine and acetochlor contamination, this may present a direct threat to the drinking water supplies, as further purification technologies (chlorination, ozonization) may not decompose these organic micropollutants with sufficient efficacy.

• The results allow us to discuss the spatial variation in organic micropollutants in marine plastics and their sources, especially multiple source terms (sorption and additives).
