You could download the distribution from the Website, burn it on to a
CD and install Linux.

Because a
CD-ROM drive is a "removable" storage device, you may find that you can't access a
CD after inserting it.

Then stick a
CD in the drive and try to read it by switching to the appropriate drive just as you would to read a floppy diskette.
