The OLST is pleased to welcome Trinidad Fernandez, professor at the Department of Linguistics Applied to Science and Technology of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Prof. Fernandez will give a talk:

An online specialized thesaurus

My presentation is about an online bilingualized (English-Spanish) dictionary prototype for learners of Architecture and Building Construction. The information is designed to help users to decode and encode specialized language. We will see how concepts are related to other concepts on several planes of reference displaying textual or graphic material which represents additional concept systems. This thesaurus provides different ways of searching depending on the user’s needs: when they do not know the exact term but have an idea of the definition, they can click on the multidimensional search (a) or the image search (b); it also includes alphabetical order (c). I will talk about the reasons for being bilingualized (not bilingual), the importance of adding phonetics (audio file), illustrations and examples of usage taken from the corpus.
