If neither of these work, then in most cases the server is not a public FTP server and you will need to contact that system administrator in order to obtain an account name and password.

One of the most important tasks of a systems administrator is to keep the most current patches for an operating system and for software installed on a system. Many of these patches fix security vulnerabilities that are well known to intruders.

The patch will alter the software, either correcting a mistake in the system, or adding additional functionality to the software.

Search the vendor patch database for tooltalk patches and install them right away.

The only practical defense is to remain aware of newly discovered vulnerabilities and to patch systems promptly.

Service packs are used to patch a wide range of vulnerabilities and bugs.

Operating systems and applications also need to be patched. Microsoft releases its patches on the second Tuesday of every month, so be sure to use Windows Update to keep your PC's protection bang up to date.

The server name can be a mix of upper or lower case characters, although the path must be entered exactly as it is saved on the server.

However, the socket structure sockaddr_in doesn't have a field for a Unix path name (i.e., a string) so I can specify a path. How is this possible?

There are two possibilities. (1) the application on the live computer attempts to send data while the peer is down. TCP will attempt to retransmit. Eventually, when the peer boots, it will send a RESET, closing the connection.

All computers on the Internet are peers to one another.

As an alternative to a peer-to-peer network, where all the participating computers have to run Windows and obey the commands of their users, you could set up a server-based network where the old PC performs all the donkey work.

A peer-to-peer network is simply a network without a dedicated server; all computers on the network are responsible for requesting and providing their own services.

It will query your mail server and get any new email that might be waiting for you, and it will send any pending messages, that you have authored, to your email server.

The drivers poll their respective adapter cards to determine if there is any pending activity which requires a response.

There should be user-proof setup functions so that spending hours installing any peripheral is a memory as vague as using punch cards.

Servers can be physical or virtual, so it does not take a large deployment to meet the required minimums.

All networks need a common, physical medium to use for communications, the most popular of which is Ethernet.

Oversimplified, each network connection, or "interface" in UNIX parlance must be "bound" to a physical, as well as a logical adapter.

Laptops were not an important platform for Windows NT, so it has a very limited support for this architecture.

A point-to-point network is any system that connects from one computer directly to another (as opposed to a shared media network that interconnects multiple computers).

Dial-in protocols exist to handle the point-to-point dial-in connections over normal telephone lines.

Right-click (press the right mouse button) the file or folder that you want to move. A pop-up menu opens on the desktop.

The main idea behind programming is solving a problem. You write a computer program to solve a problem that many people probably have.
